First of all, I want to give a huge virtual hug to everyone who has been impacted by the devastating fires in California. Please know that I am praying for you and your families and I’m also making contributions to families in need. I vacillated about whether to post this blog in light of the current state of affairs, but after giving it some thought, I think we all can use some good news.
Today was day 1 of the filming of the proof of concept short film, POUND CAKE, written and directed by the talented, Kamiya Willoughby. Kudos to her for writing such a powerful film that will resonate with many people, especially with women of a certain age that have not had a voice, women who are amazing, talented, and powerful, but who in order to survive, have had to dim their light. I also want to give thanks to our fabulous AD, Nicole Lloyd, and DP, Dominic Czarnota, and our Production Designer, Tess Hulburt. I also applaud the other talented and hardworking crew on this film.
My call time today was not until 8:00 a.m., but I found myself parked in front of the set location at 7:00 a.m. Living in Los Angeles, I always give myself a lot of wiggle room to get to set because invariably there will be accidents along the way and with the fires, a lot of freeways have been closed. But if I get really honest, I was there early because I couldn’t wait to begin filming. I hit the ground running when I was called to set. Acting is truly what I was called to do. It gives me so much joy and satisfaction. The vibe on set today was amazing and harmonious. It was like we all were made for this one moment in time. I feel like we were all destined to come together on this project, and I thank God for this opportunity. I look forward to tomorrow. It will be the final day of filming. Needless to say, I don’t want it to end!!!
