I had the honor of meeting Denise Dowse thirteen years ago. I had written a play called One Woman, Two Lives and was bringing it to the stage. I needed a director and the late amazing actor Billy Mayo suggested Denise. As her name fell from his lips, my eyes went wide. Denise Dowse, direct my play? Denise Dowse, who starred in movies like Ray? Denise Dowse, who played Mrs. Yvonne Teasley, the vice principal on “Beverly Hills, 90210”? Denise Dowse who has had recurring and guest starring roles on countless hit television shows like “Insecure” and “Imposters”? Denise Dowse who was not only an amazing actress, but an incredible award-winning director? Yes, that Denise Dowse ended up directing my play.
What I soon learned after meeting her and spending time with her was that she was much more than an accomplished actress and director. She was an intelligent, determined, loving, compassionate, and amazing human being. She had a presence that made everyone stand at attention and she had a smile that would light up a room. I feel so privileged to have known her and to have spent time with her. I know all of Heaven must be rejoicing having her there. Denise Dowse will be missed, but never forgotten. She has touched countless lives and has left a beautiful legacy. Much love to her family. I pray they take consolation in knowing that Denise made the world a better place.
