Married in the Nick of Nine Launch Party

Yesterday I introduced the world to my third child “Married in the Nick of Nine.” It’s been a long road from conception to birth. On Saturday, June 9 from 12:00 p.m.– 4:00 p.m. at Adassa’s Island Café, there will be a “Coming Out” Party for my baby, and I look forward to seeing and meeting all of you. Check out “News and Events” for the details.   If you would have asked me a year ago if I’d be launching a book in 2012, I would have given you a raised brow. I love writing, but after my second self-published book, I had vowed to never write another one without agent representation or a possible book deal. You know what they say about saying ‘never.’ Once I had finished writing “Married in the Nick of Nine” and I got a look at the finished product; I was like a new mother — proud and overcome with love and joy, beaming about what God and I had created. Gabby, you inspire me

Gabby, you inspire me
I’ve been watching Gabby Douglas interviews for the past hour and I can’t stop crying. When I watch Gabby’s performances and I hear her speak, I’m overcome with emotion. Here’s a pint sized wonder who had a dream and went after it. While other little girls were riding their bikes, playing with video games, and chatting up with their besties, beautiful Gabby was working her butt off. Now it has paid off and she has become the first African-American woman to win the all-around gymnastics gold.   What a feat, what a girl! When Gabby speaks her eyes light up and they’re full of hope and determination. How could one not be moved by someone so young and inspirational? She makes me want to never give up. Like Gabby I have been pursuing my dream for many years, and like Gabby, I’ve made many sacrifices. And like gymnastics, publishing and promoting a book takes time and money. My latest work,“Married in the Nick of Nine,” has cost me a lot of both, but it’s been a labor of love and dollars well-spent. When I think about all the people who have read the book so f...

(DWL) Driving While Lost

(DWL) Driving While Lost
I’ve been driving in Los Angeles since I was sixteen and am pretty confident that I can find any location by memory, MapQuest, or GPS.  Los Angeles’ highways and byways are as familiar to me as the back of my manicured hand.  Give me an address and I’m there. However, that wasn’t the case while I was in Atlanta earlier this month. One of my best friends was graduating from Trichology School and I was there to support her as well as spend some time with my relatives. When planning the trip, I decided that I didn’t want to be a burden on anyone, so I reserved a rental car with navigation. I have to admit I was filled with trepidation during the days leading up to the trip. Unlike Los Angeles, I had only been to Atlanta once and I was a passenger in my aunt and uncle’s car the entire time, paying little or no attention to landmarks or where we were going. So needless to say, I was a bit apprehensive about my upcoming trip and my ability to get to my various destinations, especially at night. Upon landing I checked into the rental agency and received a ...
